Yoga Retreat at September Equinox

Let’s tune to the September Equinox change of season.

Taking cues from nature, landscape and crops here at Viveka Gardens (8.5 acres) we’ll value our own inner nature, landscape and personal harvests.

We’ll harvest fruits in the orchard and gardens, plant out over-wintering crops and sow new seeds. In the wider landscape we can forage blackberries, and rejoice in hedgerow fruits and turning trees.

With comfortable accommodation, lovely gardens an orchard and land, Viveka Gardens is an idyllic place to rest and re-ground. Gentle yoga, restorative yoga, yoga nidra and morning meditation will relax the nervous system, offer space to reflect on our personal seasons and open to inspiration for what next.

To harvest there will be winter squash in the kitchen garden, first apple varieties and pears from the orchard, and blackberries from the hedgerows on the land. There’ll be kale and radicchio to plant out, to nourish through the winter, and green manures to protect and restore the soil. We’ll plant bulbs and sow flowers that’ll delight spring into summer.

This retreat features:

  • food growing sessions with sowing, tending, harvesting and horticultural input
  • growing without animal inputs (all vegan place)
  • campfire
  • vegan soulfood food
  • sitting or lying in the field/orchard/gardens/hammocks…or bed

Joy of Germination (short blog): how yoga and food growing come together

Gentle yoga includes breathing exercises, movement, going towards holding of classical yoga postures and a lot of lying down!  You will be encouraged to listen to your body and do what is right for you, and adaptations will be suggested. If the group wants a stronger hatha class, or yin yoga we can go for those approaches too.

Restorative yoga is a lot more of lying down, with the body supported for constructive rest of muscles and so tendons and other deep tissue, as well as the nervous system.

Yoga nidra is a guided lying-down meditation for deep rest and personal insight.
