Loved the angle and grace of the dichotomous branching of this tree in bare naked winter form today at Wisley and on further research I find it has so many virtues I’ll be looking for an opportunity to plant one asap.
- swamped by bees in July and August with domed corymbs 15 cm (!) across
- glossy pinnate leaves 40cm long
- smooth grey bark
- seed bright red capsules that reveal black seeds loved by birds
- hardy and drought resistant
- small to medium (sources say anything from 12 – 20m)
Also known as Euodia/Evodia, bee bee tree, honigbaum; from China, family RUTACEAE. Rubbish photo, so hire me and let’s plant one and see!
